Adopted 08/01/08
Please meet Angel. Angel is a striking 1 year old (bd 04/17/07) smaller blue merle female with brown eyes.
Angel and her sister Celia (below) were turned into the shelter because their owners are divorcing and neither wants them.
That's hard to believe, as both are delightful dogs! Angel is about 34 lbs. and is a little skittish, but only a little. She
tends to hang out in the other room (though we've dumped her into a situation with four other dogs so it's not that difficult
to see why she'd feel a little crowded!), but comes readily when called and is very enthusiastic about all her activities!
She loves to run and play, gets along great with dogs, cats, and kids, loves to go for rides in the car, and is crate trained
and housebroken. She plays fetch with a tennis ball and brings it right back with some encouragement - she's very competitive
with one of her foster sisters. Angel knows
shake hands, high five, sit, stay, drop down or lay down. She is current on her vaccinations and is microchipped. Here is
some video of Angel playing with her sister Celia:

is being fostered in Cedar Rapids.

Adopted 08/04/08!
This is Celia, a beautiful 1 year old (bd 04/17/07) blue merle female with one blue eye and one partly blue eye.
Celia and her sister Angel (above) were turned into the shelter because their owners are divorcing and neither wants them.
That's hard to believe, as both are delightful dogs! Celia is about 38 lbs. and is quite confident. She loves to play, fetches
but strictly for fun, and is a very typical velcro Aussie, always hanging out wherever people are. She gets along well with
dogs, is crate trained, housebroken, and loves to ride in the car. She is good with children and with cats, loves to run, and
knows shake hands, high five, sit, stay, drop down or lay down. Celia is current on her vaccinations and is microchipped. She
has a very sweet and loving personality. Here is
some video of Celia playing with her sister Angel:

Special Needs Dog
Please meet Rocky! Rocky is a sweetheart, a large 5 year old red-tri male with a happy and bouncy personality.
He sits on command, comes when called and is housebroken. He is not used to being in a crate (and doesn't need to be, is
completely dependable in the house), but has been crated in the
past and could easily be re-trained. He is a big snuggle bug and loves to be petted (Check it out here!).
Rocky loves people, kids and most
other dogs. He has lived with cats and has been fine with them. He enjoys playing with some toys, though he doesn't really
retrieve. Rocky knows the command "out" to get out from under your feet. He doesn't jump on the
furniture at all, and doesn't jump up too much on people either, although he will. Rocky is listed as a special needs dog
because he is missing an eye. His breeder neglected Rock and his littermates when they were young; he apparently got an
infection of some sort in his eye, and by the time he got into rescue, there was no way to save it, so it was removed.
You would certainly never guess he is at all handicapped by the loss -- in fact, he's so agile, he has even caught a squirrel!
He is a little overweight at 60 lbs. (could probably lose 5 to be ideal), but nonetheless has a great vertical leap!
(So funny to see.) His foster mom says "he jumps like a deer and is really quick!" He really does just jump straight up,
though, not over -- has not been inclined to jump over fences. Rocky is very energetic outside, but nice and calm inside.
As with most Aussies, he'll stick with you and wants to be where you are. Rocky is neutered and current on vaccinations.
Here are a couple more short video clips of Rocky: 1) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BPE1A3WudmQ,
and 2) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVSUc0VU3tQ. Rocky is being fostered in Iowa City.

Hello from Sadie! Sadie is a very pretty little red merle female, small at about 30 lbs, 4 years old, spayed,
heartworm negative,
and up to date on vaccinations. She's quick, energetic, very interested in learning, agile, and curious about everything.
Sadie is fine with
other dogs, and could be a playmate for a dog who doesn't mind rough play; she will probably want to
be the dominant dog in a multi-dog household. She cannot be placed in a home with cats. But, Sadie is
extremely attentive to
humans. She has great eye-contact and is just dying to learn new stuff. She'd make a wonderful agility or flyball dog, and
may have good herding potential, though we haven't had the chance to test this. Sadie is housebroken, crate trained,
rides great in the car, and has an excellent recall. She is fine uncrated around the house, doesn't chew on things or
get into trouble. She loves
attention and petting and puts her head under your hand to nudge if you forget she's there and waiting for pats. Sadie has
sort of an obsessive personality, so does need a human who will help guide her away from things that might become bad habits.
She is glad to learn the right thing to do, but on her own is as likely to pick up annoying habits and focus on those. Sadie
is no couch potato
and will need to go to a home where she'll be kept busy and where she can learn new things, but she is totally willing to do your bidding and will make
such a fun companion!
Here is a video of Sadie working on some training: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_LSmAgawCs.
Please consider Sadie to share in your activities! For more information or with questions, contact Jayne at mcjayne@yahoo.com

Josey is everything I have ever found delightful about a Sheltie: she's intelligent, affectionate, and lively. Josey is a 25 pound dark sable female
Sheltie, approximately 4 years old, and was picked up as a stray. She has been completely trustworthy in my house, she is housetrained (has never had an
accident) does not chew on or get into things. Josey knows some basic obedience commands, and is working on learning more! She is spayed and up to
date on all vaccinations. Josey gets along well with kids, cats and other dogs! She currently goes with me to work at a doggie daycare almost daily, so
she is very well socialized. Josey is working on her car riding manners, and has already many a huge improvement from barking to a quiet "complaining." Josey
entertains us with her "talking" when she is playing, sometimes you can't even hear her, you just see her mouth moving like she is talking to you, and she makes us
laugh with her excited, barky, Sheltie spins when you dare to leave the house without her; she thinks it is no fair -- she wants to go too! As with many herding dogs,
Josey is a car chaser and must go to a home with a fence to keep her safe. Josey will make someone a great companion: she's ready to play when you are, and
ready to lay at your feet while you relax. Please consider giving this sweet little gal the forever home that she deserves. For more information, or for an
application to adopt Josey please contact Robyn at Robbydawne19@aol.com.

We'd like you to meet George. He is very friendly and has lots of love to give. He is looking for someone to
invest a little time and love. He has amazing height to his jump. We think he might be great at frisbee and with a
tennis ball. We know he'd love a place to run! George is not neutered but his adoption fee includes that surgery. He is
good with kids. George is currently at the Kiya Koda Animal
Shelter in Indianola. Contact Corissa Arndt at 515-971-6988, or by email at assiroc@hotmail.com.

Dink is a 3 year old red merle male. He is being surrended by his family because he has some stranger anxiety from his early life. Here is
what his family says about Dink: Dink is housebroken. In his last obdience class the instructor we had said he has 'stranger anxiety'. For his first two years he
was tied up outside on a chain before we got him from the humane society. So although he is three, he has had barely a year of learning to be comfortable out in
public. His reaction is to whine and whimper if he is around other dogs or large crowds of people (we tried taking him to a parade with our other Aussie once).
Generally as long as he is comfortable in his surroundings (i.e., our house or yard, relatives' or friends' houses where we are often) he is the perfect dog.
Honestly if we weren't trying to use him in 4-H (unfamiliar surroundings, lots of 'stranger dogs') we would not be willing to let him go. Our family is quite
attached to him. We have never been in a situation where we feel it is best for the dog to be with a different family. Dink always prefers to be where his people are;
he is a typical velcro Aussie. During the day he moves from room to room to follow the activity. At night he wants to stay in the family room as
long as there are people awake. He sleeps on the bed with our son (so is good with kids), but has slept in the room with my wife and I and will stay off the bed if
told to. Activity wise, he is completely Frisbee and ball crazy. Tennis balls, soccer balls, anything at all that he can chase. Frisbees are one of his favorites;
he likes being able to grab it out of the air. I think he is extremely fast, but I don't have much experience with competitve events to compare it to.
We have not had him groomed at all in the year we have had him. He coat is fairly fine and seems to grow to the perfect length and just stop. He is neutered
and current on his vaccinations.
Contact the owners directly with inquiries about Dink; he currently lives in Wapello: Ed Mears, cell 815-441-5017, email mirrors93@iowatelecom.net.
